
Professor Amina Salihi Bayero Assumes Office as the New Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano
Northwest University Kano on Friday, 12th December 2025, formally welcomed its newly appointed Vice Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, following the successful completion of the handover process with the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Aisha Garba Habib. The ceremony, which took place in the presence of all principal officers of the University, officially marked the commencement of Professor Bayero’s five-year tenure.
In her farewell remarks, the outgoing Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Aisha Garba Habib, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for granting her the privilege to serve the institution. She acknowledged the support and cooperation extended to her by the principal officers throughout her two-month stewardship. Professor Habib also briefed the incoming Vice Chancellor on the notable achievements recorded under her interim leadership.
During the handover session, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero delivered her address beginning with Bismillah, reaffirming her belief that her emergence as Vice Chancellor was destined by the will of Almighty Allah. She prayed for divine guidance throughout her tenure and appealed for sustained support and cooperation from the principal officers and the entire University community. She assured them that her administration will adopt a participatory approach to leadership, anchored on collective responsibility and shared vision.
Immediately after the handover, Professor Bayero convened a closed-door meeting with the principal officers, marking her first official engagement as the substantive Vice Chancellor—a clear indication of her prompt transition into active leadership.
In a subsequent communication with the Head of the Public Relations Unit of Northwest University Kano, Professor Bayero revealed that her administration shall operate under a well-defined and actionable strategic framework known as the “PRECISE WIND” Agenda. The 14-point blueprint is designed to strengthen partnerships; advance academic and research excellence; deepen innovation; promote sustainability and inclusive leadership; enhance welfare, discipline, and security; improve infrastructure; accelerate digital transformation; and foster mentorship across all facets of the University. She further disclosed that the comprehensive agenda will soon be formally unveiled, noting that it aligns seamlessly with the Vision, Mission, and Core Values of Northwest University Kano.
rofessor Bayero also extended her heartfelt appreciation to all and sundry for the overwhelming outpouring of congratulatory messages received in the wake of her appointment. She expressed deep gratitude to friends and family, friends of the University, members of the University community, and numerous prominent professors—including the President of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Professor Abubakar Adamu Gwarzo—among others. According to her, the goodwill messages were both humbling and inspiring. She conveyed her sincere appreciation to everyone who rejoiced with her and to all those who witnessed her assumption of office as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano.
