Read Full MessageIt is my pleasure to welcome you to the Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development (DRID) of Northwest University, Kano.
DRID exists to strengthen research quality and integrity across the University, to connect our scholars with funding and collaboration, and to support the translation of research into useful outcomes for society, industry, and policy.
We do this work under the wind of institutional direction set by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, through the PRECISE WIND agenda (2025–2030). For DRID, that wind is not a slogan on a wall — it is a working rhythm. Excellence in academics and research asks us to raise the standard of inquiry and output. Innovativeness and entrepreneurial skills push ideas beyond the seminar room. Partnership and engagement open doors across faculties, with the Sule Hamma Library, industry, and communities beyond campus. Ranking and globalisation remind us that credible scholarship must travel. Digital transformation sharpens how we discover, manage, and share knowledge. Ethical behaviour and sustainability keep development honest and durable. The other pillars of PRECISE WIND from welfare and inclusive leadership to infrastructure, power and security, consolidation, neatness and health, are the campus conditions in which serious research either thrives or stalls; DRID will keep faith with that whole.
This site is our public gateway. It will grow in stages: a clear structure now; richer evidence, projects, and services as Council approvals and content come on stream. For the moment you will find our orientation, priority themes, the current national research funding call, and our monthly Innovate & Connect seminar series with room marked for what is still on the way.
Staff, students, partners, and visitors are encouraged to make full use of these pages and to contact the Directorate where guidance is required. Ideas ignite progress; collaboration drives development. I look forward to your engagement with the research community of Northwest University.
