
The Pro-Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano, His Excellency, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, MFR, has led a high-powered delegation of the University’s Management and Governing Council on a courtesy visit to Lafia Barebari to formally introduce the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, to the Chancellor of the University, His Royal Highness, Hon. Justice (Dr) Sidi Bage Muhammad I, CFR, JSC (Rtd), Life Bencher, Emir of Lafia Barebari and Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs.
The visit, which took place at the palace of the Emir in Lafia Barebari, marked an important institutional tradition aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship between the University’s leadership and its Chancellor, as well as seeking royal guidance and support for the continued growth and development of Northwest University, Kano.
While introducing the purpose of the visit, Professor Hafiz Abubakar explained that the delegation was in Lafia Barebari to officially present Professor Amina Salihi Bayero to the Chancellor following her recent appointment as Vice-Chancellor. He then requested the Registrar, Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu to formally introduce members of the entourage individually to His Royal Highness, notwithstanding that many of them were already well known to the Chancellor, highlighting the importance of due protocol and respect for the royal institution.
In his response, the Chancellor, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice (Dr) Sidi Bage Muhammad I, warmly welcomed the Pro-Chancellor and members of the University Management. He congratulated Professor Amina Salihi Bayero on her appointment as Vice-Chancellor and assured her of his full support. The Chancellor expressed his readiness to work closely with the University leadership to ensure the sustained progress, stability, and academic excellence of Northwest University, Kano.
Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, in her remarks, expressed profound gratitude to the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Engineer Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for the confidence and trust reposed in her through her appointment as Vice-Chancellor. She also commended the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, for his tireless and consistent efforts toward building and strengthening the University.
The Vice-Chancellor pledged her commitment to working harmoniously with the Chancellor, the Governing Council, and all stakeholders, noting that she would always seek guidance and assistance from His Royal Highness whenever necessary in the best interest of the institution.
The delegation comprised all the Principal Officers of the University as well as some members of the Governing Council, reflecting the collective support of the University leadership for the new Vice-Chancellor and the shared resolve to advance the vision and mission of Northwest University, Kano.
The visit further reaffirmed the strong bond between the University and its Chancellor and highlighted the importance of unity, collaboration, and traditional support in the governance and development of higher education institutions in Nigeria.
