Professor Aisha Garba Habib is an erudite scholar of Islamic Studies with a distinguished academic and administrative career. She has served in several capacities within the University system, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, and pioneer Head of Department, Islamic Studies, where she demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to student welfare, academic excellence, and institutional development. She also held the position of Vice Principal, School of Preliminary and Remedial Studies (C.A.S) among others.
Beyond her administrative engagements, Professor Habib has been actively involved in national academic and educational activities. She has been serving as a member of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Situation Room Group for several consecutive years, and also as a Member of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Panel for Islamic Studies at various universities across the country.
Her commitment to higher education governance is further reflected in her active participation in numerous University committees, including the University Governing Council for two terms, committee on Strategic Planning, Quality Assurance, Students’ Discipline, Public Lectures, and Law Review, among others. She was also a member of the Governing Council of Audu Bako School of Agriculture.
She has equally participated as a member in the Transformation Committee of Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education to a University of Education, and is presently a member of the Planning and Implementation Committee for the establishment of Ummah University in Abuja.
Academically, Professor Habib holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Islamic Studies from Bayero University, Kano, and has complemented her academic qualifications with advanced training in Information and Communication Technology. She is a respected member of several professional and scholarly bodies, including the Nigerian Association of Teachers of Arabic and Islamic Studies, the Islamic Forum of Nigeria, and the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT).
Her appointment marks a significant milestone in the history of Northwest University Kano, as she becomes the first distinguished female scholar to lead the institution in an acting capacity. Her wealth of experience, deep commitment to scholarship, and strong administrative background are expected to sustain the University’s trajectory of excellence and growth.
