Northwest University, Kano to establish three Faculties … to sign MOU with Eastern Mediterranean University

Northwest University, Kano will establish three Faculties next year namely; Law, Engineering and Agriculture, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Mustapha Ahmad Isa has said.

Prof. Isa who was speaking while receiving delegation from Eastern Mediterranean University, Northern Cyprus Turkey on a courtesy visit in his office, said the new Faculties to be established are part of the development phase of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that the University will start graduating students this year, adding that its first set are now in second semester of final year, explaining that the first convocation will come next year.

According to him, Northwest University is the second state owned University in Kano which was established in 2012, adding that the University is a conventional one with Students Population of over 5000 and over 700 staff.

The University has five Faculties and three campuses namely; Main Campus, City Campus and Kwanar Dawaki, while Murtala Muhammad Library Complex serves as Department of Library and Information Science of the University.

Prof. Isa while expressing appreciation with the offer of Memorandum of Understanding by the Eastern Mediterranean University, assured that university is ready to partner with the foreign University in the areas identified for the collaboration.

He said Northwest University, Kano has collaborations with various universities nationally and internationally.

Earlier in his address, the Team Leader and Director Graduate Institute and Research of the Eastern Mediterranean University, Prof. Dr. Mustapha Tumer said the purpose of their visit was to seek partnership with Northwest University Kano on teachers training, students exchange and teachers exchange.

He explained that Eastern Mediterranean University is an international university established in 1979 and currently with over 20,000 students from almost all parts of the world.

Prof. Tumer added that his University has more than 30 research centers, adding that it also has over 150 academic collaborations globally. “Our Library has over 160,000 books and more than 10,000 electronics journals”, he added.
